​Martin J. Sweet teaches American Government, Campaigns & Elections, and Constitutional Law at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. Sweet has previously been on the faculty, staff, or a visitor at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, the University of Haifa, and Florida Atlantic University in both Boca Raton and Jupiter, Florida. Martin is the former CEO of Citizen Congress, a bipartisan technology and civic education firm, and the National Director of Jewish Outreach for Marco Rubio for President in 2016.

His book, Merely Judgment: Ignoring, Evading, and Trumping the Supreme Court, published by the University of Virginia Press in 2010, examines affirmative action, hate speech, flag burning, school prayer, and legislative vetoes. Sweet was the 2005 co-winner of the American Political Science Association's Corwin Prize for the nation's best doctoral dissertation in the area of public law. Martin is a frequent panelist on the Indiana statewide public affairs television program INFocus. He regularly provides expert analysis for newspapers, radio, and television, and has been an invited speaker and panel moderator for national and local educational, civic, political, and religious organizations.
